Terms of Use

The agreement between you and the SwapMatch Team: what you accept when you join, what you may list, how a swap between two members works, and what we can and cannot do about it.

1. The agreement

By creating a SwapMatch account you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app. You must be 18 or older; the app asks for your date of birth before it asks for anything else.

SwapMatch is a place where two people find each other and agree to exchange things. We are not a party to your swap. We do not own the items, never take possession of them, do not check them, and do not sell anything ourselves — which is exactly why the sections below say what they say.

SwapMatch is built and run by the SwapMatch Team; support@swapmatch.me reaches us.

2. Your account

You sign in with a Google account or, on iPhone, with Apple, so there is no SwapMatch password to lose. Keep the device and that account secure: anything done from your account is treated as done by you until you tell us otherwise.

  • One person, one account — accounts are personal. They cannot be sold, rented, lent or transferred. Signing in with Apple and with Google under the same email address opens the same account, not a second one; an address hidden with Apple's Hide My Email is a different address, and so a different account.
  • Real details — the name and the location on your profile should be your own. Other members meet you on the strength of them.
  • Suspension — we can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the Community Guidelines, or that puts other members at risk.

3. Your public profile

Other members can open your profile. On it are your name and picture, your town, how many swaps you have settled, how long you have been on SwapMatch, the achievements you have earned, and your things — unless you have hidden them. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is on it and what is not.

  • A record, not a rating — the counters say what you did. They are not a score, not a review and not a recommendation from us: a long history on the app is no promise that any particular swap will go well. Check the item and meet in public whatever the profile says.
  • Earn it honestly — listings for things you do not have, swaps arranged with a friend to move a number, messages sent to nobody — anything done to inflate a counter or turn a coin rather than to swap something is a breach of these terms. We can correct a count, withhold or remove an achievement, and act on the account.
  • Hiding your things is a display setting — it takes your collection off your profile. It does not take your listings out of the deck, it does not make them unmatchable, and it hides nothing from us or from moderation.
  • The counters are ours to compute — we work them out from what actually happened on the app, and we can change how one is calculated or stop showing it. An achievement is a feature of the service, not property, and nothing is owed to you if one changes or goes.

4. What you may list

List only things you own and are free to pass on, described honestly: real photographs of the actual item, its real condition, and the faults it actually has. What may not be listed at all — and what may be listed only under conditions — is set out in the Community Guidelines, which are part of these terms.

You are responsible for the legality of what you offer, wherever you are offering it. Local law may forbid more than our guidelines do; it never permits less.

5. How a swap works

When two members agree, the swap is an agreement between the two of you: what is exchanged, where you meet, and who covers postage if you decide to ship. Inspect the item before you hand yours over, and walk away if you have stopped feeling good about it. Nobody is obliged to complete a swap.

If something goes wrong Report it from the conversation's options menu, or write to support@swapmatch.me, as soon as you can — the sooner you tell us the more we can still see. We can review the conversation, act on an account and help you sort it out. We cannot refund, compensate or arbitrate an exchange we were never part of.

6. Fees

SwapMatch is free. There is no listing fee, no commission and nothing to buy inside the app, so we never ask for a card or a bank account. Anyone who asks you for one in a chat is not us — report them.

If we ever introduce something paid, it will be optional and its price will be shown before you agree to anything.

7. What you post

Your photos and your words stay yours. You give us permission to store them and to show them inside SwapMatch — in the deck, on your profile and in the conversations you have — for as long as you keep them there. Delete a listing and it goes out of the app with it.

We do not use your photos in advertising or marketing without asking you first.

8. Moderation, and what you can do about it

Members report listings, conversations and each other; a listing reported by enough different people is taken off the market automatically while a person looks at it, and an account reported by enough different people can be suspended automatically. A suspension doubles in length if the behaviour continues, and repeated or serious breaches end the account.

When we act — a suspension, or a listing taken off the market — we tell you the ground for it. Nothing is deleted by a takedown: you keep seeing your own listing, and it can be put back. If you think a decision was wrong, write to support@swapmatch.me and a person will look at it again. A suspension is a decision about taking part in the service — it never stops you exporting or deleting your own data, which stays available to you throughout.

9. What we are and are not responsible for

We run the service with reasonable care and want it to be there when you open it, but we provide it as it is: we do not promise it is uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular item or person will be on it.

We are not responsible for the condition, legality, safety, description or value of an item, for whether a member turns up, or for what anyone does once the two of you have left the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud — and nothing takes away the rights the consumer law of the country you live in gives you.

10. Ending the agreement

Delete your account whenever you like, from Profile → Menu → Edit profile → Delete profile. What that removes, and the one small thing it does not, is described in the Privacy Policy.

We can close an account for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, and will say why unless the law stops us.

11. Changes to these terms

The date at the top of this page is the version you are reading. When we change something that matters we will say so before the change takes effect. Continuing to use SwapMatch after that means the new version applies to you; if it does not suit you, delete the account and nothing is owed either way.

12. The law that applies

We are based in Montenegro, and these terms are read under Montenegrin law. If you use SwapMatch as a consumer somewhere else, the mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in apply to you regardless of that, and this section does not take them away.

13. The language of these terms

These terms are written and published in English, and English is the only version we stand behind. We publish no official translations, and a translation — your own, your browser's, or one we send you as a courtesy — has no legal effect and cannot be relied on against the English text.

The app itself speaks six languages; these documents do not. If English is difficult, ask us for a translation at support@swapmatch.me and we will send one to help you read them. The English version still governs.
